Feb. 28 2011

Haven't posted in awhile but we have been busy and the main reason is we misplaced the camera so with no pictures why post. Gloria and I took a ride to Old Town Scottsdale. Some nice stores and John Wayne took a shine to Gloria
On the 18th we went with Dwight and Donna to Tombstone. We met up with Larry and Carol there.
We took in a Comedy Western Gunfight show that was entertaining.

We had lunch in the Long Branch Saloon and walked the walk that Wyatt Earp and his brothers took to get to the OK Corral. We did not go to the OK Corral Show as it was getting late and we had other places we wanted to hit. Our next stop was Boot Hill. It was not safe in Tombstone in 1881. There are very few people there that did not die a violent death.

After we left Tombstone we headed to Bisbee.

Going through town I found out Gloria has been holding out on me.

There is an old open pit copper mine on the out skirts of town that we looked at.

On the 19th Dwight and I went to the Arizona Big Ale Fest. When we left the temp was in the high 60's and it was a nice day. I did not bring a jacket. On the way to Phoenix the first thing that happened was a sand storm that can really slow up traffic.

By the time we got into Phoenix the temperature dropped to the very low 50's and it started to rain. Since I did not have a jacket, it was miserable. Donna and Gloria went shopping and were waiting for us to call. I did not last long. It's a shame as there were some very good beers there.  Even Dwight was cold.

Feb. 15 2011

Its been pretty busy here.  We've been driving around and getting the lay of the land. We met up with Barb and Jack. They left Texas before we did and we got together with them for lunch. They drove us around to give us some help in a strange town. Dwight and Donna finally got here.  Dwight came over to help me set up my satellite TV. It turned into a 3 geezer, 1/2 hour job with my next door neighbor doing all the work. So far working at Dwight's to get his TV hooked up has turned into a 2 geezer, 2 day job. So far no luck. All the info that Dwight has on his satellite is set up for different towns in Canada.  He has been trying to extrapalate the angles and azmiths for down here. We got to the point that we were walking around the RV Park looking to see if any of the other Canadian people had the Bell system. So far it looks like he is the only one with that system.

Dot has been enjoying her time here. There are open fields on both sides of the Park. There are plenty of Quail and Doves for her to find and attempt to chase.

Beside the Quail and Doves, they also have Burrowing Owl's

We took a ride to the Casa Grande National Monument. It's how the whole town got it's name.

This is what is left of an ancient Indian village.

This is what's left of a Saguaro Cactus

The RV Park has nice sized sites and the roads are nice and wide. It made it easy to get into the sites.

Starting on Saturday, the Phoenix area is having a week long Craft Brew fest. Dwight and I have tickets for the tasting on Saturday. There are a lot of Brew Pubs in the area and they are all having something going on.

Feb. 8 2011

Little behind on the blog but here are several days' worth of adventures. We ended up getting a camp site in Bensen, AZ when we had truck problems.

I had no power. Took the truck to a Ford dealer and they checked it out and said the problem was my Edge Chip that I had installed in the truck. They disconnected it and said all my problems were over. I went back to the campground hitched up and didn't get a mile down I 10 before my problems came back. Got off at the next exit and went back to Ford. They hooked up the computer again and said all was well, that here was nothing wrong and they had checked everything out. Eventually we made it to Tucson. Got another camp site and took the truck to another Ford dealer. They said that there was a 3 to 5 day wait. We got there on a Thursday so I figured that I would be there till at least Wednesday. I called up Enterprise and rented a car. No point being in a new town and not being able to see anything, so the rental was an option. I talked to my friend Russ and he said it sounded like a fuel filter problem. I drove to Ford and had them change the filters. They had already checked the truck with the computer and found nothing wrong. The fuel filter was the problem. Since I had the car and had paid for the site, we explored Tucson. It's a nice town and we had a good time. Gloria has a friend she worked with that lives there so we went to see them. Had a great time with them on Saturday. They have a house on the side of a mountain with a fabulous view.

We also visited Saguaro National Park. It was a very neat place to see.

Took a trip to Old Tucson but did not stop. It was on old movie set that John Wayne used for 4 of his movies. We then went to the Desert Museum and thought that was a great place. We would recommend it if you're out this way.
                                                                      2 Cougars napping

                                                                      two mule deer
                                                                              turkey

A Mexican Wolf

                                                                     Some Javelina

They had a Raptor flyover.

Mountain goats

These little buggers have been a thorn in Dot's side. She no sooner starts to get birdy and they are in the air and gone

Now who says it doesn't get cold in the desert.
